So my family and I didn’t really go anywhere on day 2 of our trip, but that didn’t stop us from picking up some of our dearly missed second home.
Born and raised in the east coast, I grew up eating Dunkin’ Donuts instead of Krispy Kreme, so I definitely have a soft spot for Dunkin’ Donuts. I personally prefer using “doughnuts,” but to keep things consistent, I will use “donuts.”
But when my family and I moved to California, our Dunkin’ Donuts supply was cut short. Whenever we have the chance to go to the east coast, we stop by DD’s small shops and are greeted by their fun orange and pink door handles and the welcoming aroma of coffee and donuts. Among the many types of donuts they offer, we bought just three flavors–but all of them are worth trying.
The blueberry donut is a cakey donut with a nice blueberry flavor that isn’t too overpowering or faint. The amount of (regular) icing on the donut is perfect–thin enough to provide a little sweetness, but thick enough to provide a nice sugary-crunch texture as you bite into the donut.
The chocolate donut is also a cake-like donut, but with a chocolate. Again, the amount of icing and the consistency of the icing complement the dense, yet fluffy texture of the cake donut.
The French cruller is my dad’s favorite: a light and airy donut with beautiful, beautiful twists and curves. So satisfying to watch the French cruller untwist as you pull apart a bite, but even more so when the fluffy sweet bite melts in your mouth the moment it touches your tongue.
What’s missing? A simple hot coffee–rich liquid gold with just the right amount of cream and sweetness–to wash it all down. My family and I love the old-fashioned style Dunkin’ Donuts continues to bring, and we hope that this classic donut shop will always be there to welcome us home.

As a girl who also moved from the east to the west coast, I so feel your Dunkin’ Donuts cravings. It will always be better than Krispie Kreme for me.
